MozCafe Pune

We will be organizing a MozCafe on Sunday, the 6th of May for all volunteers and Reps from in and around Pune. The discussions would be about the future activities/events which could be organized in and around Pune in the upcoming months.

Also as discussed in the last meetup, we would also be focusing on the creation of a possible Pune Mozilla group to enable better interaction and communication between all volunteers in Pune. The group would be formalized so that all volunteers can be more actively involved and work together on all Mozilla related activities.

The timings of event has been primarily planned as 4.30pm - 7pm. However, since it may not be convenient for all to reach within 4.30pm, hence we have kept a buffer time of half an hour as we plan to start the discussions by 5.00pm.

Also, since the event has been planned in a very short time period, we would not be having any sponsorship for the expenses. We are primarily planning to share it, as a a cup of coffee for each is all that we need. However, if the event goes awesome, and there are too much expenses, then we can file a budget request.

Join us for the Mozilla Localization Sprint at Chennai on February 19

You can say, one of the reasons why Mozilla has been hugely successful in its marketing, is because of Localization –Making software products available in local languages. Not many of them are good at English. And Localization gives a chance for people to use the software with local flavor and taste.

Sadly though, in a country like India, with many languages, there hasn’t been a very active contribution towards localization of Mozilla’s products.  So, in an attempt to bring in more contributors, Mozilla is organizing a series of L10N sprints across the country in various cities.  One such event happened in Pune last Sunday as a part of GNUnify’12 and Mozilla India Meet up.  Coming weekend, events are scheduled to take place, one in Bangalore (Saturday) and in Chennai (Sunday).

Brainchild behind this is, Rakesh ‘Arky’ Ambati, Mozilla’s Localization Community Manager, who will be visiting the cities and leading the events. Also expected are contributors from various local Linux Users’ Groups. Going by the way things happened at Pune, I can assure you that this is going to be really exciting!  Apart from people who are already into localization, this will be a great opportunity for budding enthusiasts and students who would like to contribute and get involved with Mozilla.

Software Freedom Day - Pune

This year's Software Freedom Day was totally different from last year. This is the first for me as a Mozilla Rep and it is more than successful because we dint expect such huge crowd in our college. All the freshman were at the event as I am very happy to see them in such Open Source events.

We talked about FOSS, Mozilla, Mozilla Student Reps. The day started at evening 4.00 P.M. with Santosh from IIIT about Software Freedom Day and Open Source.

Then Kartheek gave about FOSS. Next, I (Galaxy) introduced about Mozilla and its commitment to the open source community. Most of the audience were very interested in Mozilla than SFD because their default browser is Firefox! Really, Firefox reached each and every corner of the world.

After the presentations were over, students who all are interested in involving with Mozilla had discussions on what they can do to make the web a better place. So, we are in process of forming a new Firefox Club at our college and the first thing we need to do is localization of Mozilla India website into Marathi with the help of other reps who all are in Pune.
